Cynthia was able to begin her career when she moved to New York and pursuing a modeling career. The model signed a five-year contract with Wihelmina Models. She then became the model for Essence Magazine. Cynthia's Essence cover, which was the highest-selling magazine in time, was also Susan Taylor's her favorite. Cynthia was awarded her second cover soon after and this was the beginning of the lucrative career she would pursue. After moving to Paris Cynthia took to her Paris Fashion Week runways and Milan Fashion Week. Cynthia moved into New York City after living overseas for almost a full year. Her campaigns comprised Maybelline Oil of Olay Macy's. Vogue editorials followed, as did with Glamour magazine, Elle, Essence Vanity Fair and Glamour. Cynthia was a major career success when she was selected over Naomi Campbell as Sandra Bernhadt's co-star in "Without You I Am Nothing".
